BREAKING NEWS: ROZSA WINS!

images-4.jpg
Well, the straws have been counted and the results are in. Mind you, I did a very rough counting, and I'll only list multiple votes, mainly to reveal trends in what would be most popular.

It goes something like this:

Rozsa was the big winner with:

Quo Vadis 14
Sinbad 12
Jungle Book 8
Thief of Baghdad 4
Double Life 2

Herrmann in second with:

On Dangerous Ground 7
Beneath the 12 Mile Reef 4
Obsession 4
Man Who Knew Too Much 3
Bride Wore Black 3
Devil and Daniel Webster 3
Journey to the Center of the Earth 2
Hangover Square 2

Walter Schumann:

Night of the Hunter 7

Gold:

Exodus 4

Waxman:

Tarus Bulba 8

Newman:

Wuthering Heights 3

Williams:

Black Sunday 2
Family Plot 2

So, there it is. Rozsa seems to be what you all want most. I was really surprised not to see more requests for North or Jerry Goldsmith. Why do you think that is? And now I have to learn the Schumann score to Night of the Hunter, because I do not know it and so many of you voted for it.

THANK YOU all for taking the time to vote here, and as well for supporting classic film music. Your input was informative and valuable.

Happy New Year!

Joel

Happy New Year Joel !

and thanks again for asking us about more recordings of beautiful music

Now we can't wait for them to come true !

Hey, this year we celebrate 100 years of film music in France (1908 was the first original film score by Camille Saint-Sans for the film L'ASSASSINAT DU DUC DE GUISE) and for the first time ever film music is part of the baccalaurat of Music(Baccalaurat is the major french test for all pupils that ends highschool before College, and a major event for all schoolboys and girls) and the choice was....Bernard Herrmann's NORTH BY NORTHWEST ! I guess your new recording will be of great help for the music students of the country !

All the best

David

Happy New Year Joel !!!

And thanks again for asking us about possible future recordings of beautiful music, now we all cross fingers !

This year we celebrate 100 years of film music in France (1908 was the date of the very first original filmscore by a major composer, Camille Saint-Saens for the film L'ASSASSINAT DU DUC DE GUISE) and for the very first time in the history of the Baccalauréat of Music(Baccalauréat is the final test ending the years of highschool for all schoolboys and girls, and considered an important event and barometer of the national educational system), they have included...film music ! And not any kind of film music : Simply Bernard Herrmann's NORTH BY NORTHWEST !!!

I'm sure your brillant rerecording will be of great help for all the young Music students of France !!!

All the best

David

Brad Arrington:

I agree with the first reply here Joel. If you're not familiar with "Night Of The Hunter" either the film or the score, then you have a real treat in store for you. It is one of the most eeriely beautiful films ever made, terrifying, yet finally triumphant and filled with optimism. The score, by Walter Schumann reflects the mysticism and "childlike" innocence which Charles Laughton so brilliantly filmed. Simply put, it's one of those rare films in which all of the elements pull together to create one classic whole.
